New campaign calls on Montana BLM Director, Jamie Connell, to release sage-grouse plan
Billings, MT– Western Values Project is announcing the launch of a new statewide campaign called Montanans for Sage-Grouse Action on Tuesday, November 18 at 12:30PM at the Montana BLM headquarters in Billings. The effort aims to educate the public and encourage Montanans to call on BLM Director, Jamie Connell, to end further delays creating and implementing a plan for sage-grouse conservation. Governor Bullock’s Greater Sage-Grouse Habitat Conservation Advisory Council released its own recommendations ten months ago, on January 29, 2014, but Director Connell has yet to act.
Mike Bowman, who serves on the Advisory Council for Western Values Project and as a spokesperson for this campaign, will be there to deliver a letter on behalf of the organization to Montana BLM Director Jamie Connell. Bowman will also announce the details of the campaign, which includes a significant paid media component.
Montanans for Sage-Grouse Action is asking Montanans to call, write, or meet in person with Ms. Connell, urging immediate action to implement a management plan for sage-grouse.
Further delays in releasing a management plan for the Greater sage-grouse on Montana’s public lands could lead to massive uncertainty and hardships for ranchers, sportsmen, and business owners as BLM and state leaders from across the American West are working to put forward plans for sage-grouse conservation within the current timeline. Montanans rely on the same sagebrush habitat as the Greater sage-grouse for their livelihoods, and are counting on Ms. Connell to do her part in protecting the bird and their Montanan way of life.
