Poll indicates U.S. Westerners don’t like natural gas flaring – Houston Chronicle

WASHINGTON – The oil industry’s practice of burning or releasing natural gas from wells where crude is the big moneymaker is unpopular in several Western states, according to a poll released Thursday.

Nearly seven out 10 likely voters in Colorado, New Mexico, North Dakota and Utah said they support regulation requiring oil companies to slash the amount of natural gas they vent or burn as a less profitable byproduct of crude production, according to the survey sponsored by Western Values Project.
