Print, TV ad campaign launches in CO, MT, NV, and WY pushing pack against Secretary Zinke’s review of BLM’s Sage-Grouse Plans

Campaign timed to coincide with the Western Governors’ Association meeting in Montana

We launched a six-figure TV, digital, and print campaign in Colorado, Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming in advance of the Western Governors’ Association (WGA) annual meeting in Montana. The ads push back against Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke’s recent Secretarial Order to review the collaborative Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) sage-grouse land management plans. The ads place a heavy emphasis on the importance of Governor Hickenlooper (CO-D), Governor Bullock (MT-D), Governor Sandoval (NV-R), and Governor Mead’s (WY-R) support of the sage-grouse plans, which were intended to balance conservation and responsible energy development across 11 Western states.

“Secretary Zinke’s Secretarial Order undermines years of bipartisan collaboration to conserve the greater sage-grouse. It appears Secretary Zinke wants to scrap all the work done by Western communities, coalitions, sportsmen and women, wildlife managers, private landowners, and industry groups,” said Chris Saeger, Executive Director of the Western Values Project. “If the Governors have an audience with Secretary Zinke next week, they must use it to insist that Interior continue with the sage-grouse plans. We simply cannot afford to turn back the clock on sage-grouse conservation.”

On Wednesday, six Western governors, sent a letter to Secretary Zinke urging him to keep his promise to work with Western states and stakeholders on the ground to implement the sage-grouse management plans.
