We need your help to hold an extremist group that’s pushing to have federal lands transferred to the states accountable. Radicals from fringe group This West is OUR West met in Montana last weekend to promote anti-federal government tactics and strategies.
Among the guest speakers was the notorious Ammon Bundy, who led the 2016 occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. Bundy has a dark history of promoting violent messages attacking the federal government and its protection of public lands.
And even though these militants were meeting in Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke’s hometown of Whitefish, Montana, he refused to denounce their meeting.
Friend, we can’t let extremists get away with hate-filled attacks on our public lands and attempts to take the law into their own hands.
But it gets worse.
Adding insult to injury, late last week when he hoped no one was paying attention, Secretary Zinke announced his pick for Interior Deputy Solicitor for Wildlife and Parks.
His choice? Karen Budd-Falen, a controversial property rights lawyer with close ties to the Bundy family.Budd-Falen previously identified with the goals of armed militia leader and Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy — Ammon Bundy’s father — who refused to pay grazing fees and treated public lands as his private rangeland.
And Budd-Falen supported a failed land grab bill in Utah, believing it “could stand a chance constitutionally.”
Friend, Karen Budd-Falen is too extreme to be trusted with our national heritage. Someone who sides with armed militia groups and anti-public land extremists should not have a high-level job at the Interior Department.
