New TV ad blasts Zinke’s embarrassing scandals and “monumental” failures

Ad is part of a six-figure media buy airing on Fox and Friends and in Utah aimed at telling the President to reject Secretary Zinke’s plan to gut national monuments

Western Values Project released a new ad titled “One” that will air on Washington, D.C. cable (including the President’s favorite Fox and Friends) as part of a six-figure media buy. The ad calls Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke an embarrassment and encourages President Trump to reject his recommendations to shrink national monuments.

The ad comes ahead of President Trump’s expected trip to Utah on Monday to announce a drastic reduction of both Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments.

Zinke's monumental mess

“Secretary Zinke has been an embarrassment for this administration since his confirmation. It would be a monumental mistake for President Trump to follow his unpopular, error-riddled recommendations that could lead to the single largest reduction in protected public lands in U.S. history,” said Chris Saeger, executive director of the Western Values Project. “Secretary Zinke’s review has always been more about doing favors for special interests and the Utah Congressional Delegation than what’s good for America’s public lands. This ad delivers a clear message to President Trump: Secretary Zinke has embarrassed the administration with bad recommendations before, don’t let him do it again.”

The hard-hitting ad gives a rundown of some of the negative, embarrassing headlines Secretary Zinke has generated during his time in the administration. Thirty seconds was not enough time to highlight them all. Secretary Zinke is currently under investigation for lapses in his and his wife’s traveldiscrepancies in his Political Action Committee fundraising, and for giving a speech to one of his largest donor’s NHL hockey team, among other scandals.

The ad highlights that the recommendations to reduce national monuments by Secretary Zinke have been described as a “failure” and “monumental mess” by newspapers in the West.
