Newfound Conservation Ethos Gets Public Lands and Parks Funding Legislation Past Senate

Trump Administration’s Historically Abysmal Public Lands And Environmental Record A Stark Contrast

Today, the Senate passed the Great American Outdoors Act on a 73-25 vote. The legislation will finally fully and permanently fund America’s most important public lands, public access and parks program, the Land and Water Conservation Fund, and provide billions in funding to address the neglected infrastructure and maintenance needs across national parks.

In response to its passage, Western Values Project Director Jayson O’Neill issued the following statement:

This is such a no-brainer that it’s unconscionable that it took this long. It’s encouraging to see newfound conservation ethos from a Senate that has done little to prevent the Trump administration and their corporate allies from decimating our public lands and environmental protections that will have detrimental impacts for generations to come. This one act by no means makes up for an administration that has the worst public lands record in history.”
