Every week it seems like there’s a story in the news about the Trump administration attacking our public lands.
This week, we’re reminded that Trump and William Pendley, known anti-public lands zealot turned-acting Director of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), want to allow industrial development on hundreds of thousands of acres of protected public lands that Trump illegally removed from Utah’s Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Worse yet, the Trump administration is plowing forward with this special interest giveaway while ignoring pending lawsuits that would reverse the illegal reduction of the monument.
Not on our watch. We need to stand against this move that threatens further destruction to our protected public lands.
Not only is the Trump administration stripping away crucial protections for the monument, but acting BLM Director Pendley is hopelessly mired in related conflicts of interest.
Before joining the Department of the Interior, he was involved in multiple lawsuits opposing attempts to restore the monument, and he’s still the attorney of record for at least one of those cases.
William Pendley shouldn’t be allowed to oversee the public lands he previously fought to dismantle, and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument must be preserved.
