Prioritizing profits over wildlife

Pitch in to help us keep up the fight to preserve at-risk wildlife, including the greater sage grouse!

“THE GOVERNMENT ACKNOWLEDGED IN ITS ANNOUNCEMENT OF A PLANNED SEPTEMBER LAND LEASE THAT THE PATCHWORK OF PARCELS INCLUDES HABITAT FOR THE IMPERILED GREATER SAGE GROUSE.”
— The Telegraph

Thanks to the Bureau of Land Management’s decision to advance a new oil and gas project in core sage grouse habitats, the imperiled bird is still at risk! And the sage grouse isn’t the only species in danger.

Sage grouse expert Matt Holloran told Pew that “healthy sage-grouse populations indicate that sagebrush habitats are healthy, and healthy sagebrush habitats are crucial for thriving big game … and livestock populations vital to the outdoor recreation and agricultural industries that are the sustaining economic drivers of most Western communities.”

So despite the fact that the sage grouse is a critical piece of the Western economy, BLM will let the fossil fuel industry encroach on its habitat as part of an oil and gas project. They clearly value special interest profits over conserving vulnerable wildlife and habitat, but with ex-lobbyist David Bernhardt in charge of the Interior Department, that’s no surprise!

This isn’t the first time the sage grouse has come under threat from the Trump administration, and it likely won’t be the last.

We’re working to make sure they don’t get away with it, but we can’t do it without your support. Will you pitch in to help us keep up the fight to preserve at-risk wildlife, including the greater sage grouse?
